•   implied significant other   :   muichiro tokito , genya shinazugawa❝ + OVERVIEW : they have an overall cunning and bright demeanor, possibly the most interactive pillar amongst the others. seemingly selfish, but considerably selfless. they barely open their eyes, mostly because they rely on their senses. will only open if wanted. quite clingy with others and easily attached, would be the most polite person at first glance. naohi is like a leech. naohi is actually the most physically weak (anemic, low iron) of all hashiras, but due to immense training, naohi has the most durability among their peers. naohi likes to stall sometimes. naohi has a voice that could make anyone swoon, but the longer you hear it, the more you want to rip out your eardrums and throw them into a lake. under all that façade, naohi is the nihilistic type. they may not look like it, but it's there within. naohi is open-minded, willingly listens to anyone's burdens, and maybe would provide advice when necessary. naohi sees things a little differently from the others, most likely due to their isolation on a mountain back when they were younger. you know, when you let a bird out of its cage after being locked for its whole life, it won't fly as properly as the others.

❝ once upon a time... when naohi was younger, they lived on a mountain called mossui, where there was little to no sunlight and perpetual snowfall. their village worshipped a deity called benzaiten, who was said to be a goddess of fortune, but their method of worship involved offering a specific amount of blood based on one's wish. this led to anemia and other health issues for both naohi and their mother. their relationship is strange; they hardly speak, but as long as their mother feeds them, they'll be okay. naohi is ten years old, but they have and will never hear endearments from their mother. ten-year-old naohi is regarded as extremely mature. but at present,  behaves more like a youngster. benzaiten was ultimately revealed to be a lower moon who had been living a lie as a goddess for hundreds of years before being swiftly killed by a slayer at the kinoto rank. yoshioka michio is his name.
after benzaiten's downfall, naohi was taken under his wing, a stoic man yet on the inside who was compassionate. it was due of their decision to confront benzaiten at the shrine that naohi ended up in this situation. naohi left the village unconscious without their mother knowing, but their mother is most likely deceased due to her declining health.

when naohi was taken care of michio, they were still around ten years old. but as time passes, naohi notices how ambitious michio was when practicing on the porch of their little home. naohi was intrigued and aspired to be like him. michio didn't approve of the idea of naohi becoming a slayer due to their weak and frail physique. but naohi insisted and tried to prove him wrong. yes, naohi did pass out countless times from training alone. that was before naohi knew they were diagnosed with anemia. this was known when they were eleven, michio took naohi out to the butterfly mansion for a health examination. shinobu kochou nursed naohi for two weeks with medications and periodic venipunctures. after that, naohi continued to train tremendously, especially durability-wise. that's what naohi needed to focus on. you can't just collapse in the midst of a battle, no? eventually, at twelve years old, naohi passes the final selection and rapidly rises up the ranks in the course of six months. all because of two lower moons, naohi fought when they were at the kinoe rank. that was prior to naohi being granted the ghost hashira title. after a while, michio retires from being a slayer because he lost interest. naohi kept their heads up, being one of the most devoted members of the corps.

▍ ❝   REHABILITATION TRAINING ARC.
aka the hashiras debut in anime / manga, naohi's first impressions towards tanjiro was slightly bitter, very against the idea of bringing along a demon as a corps member. naohi did feel pity for tanjiro, and this was new. their views on tanjiro shifted the moment tanjiro headbutts sanemi, making them laugh heartily unlike mitsuri who was giggling shyly. naohi wasn't too ashamed. nevertheless, naohi still was not convinced. until kagaya speaks, naohi could only be silent. well, naohi did hush tanjiro when he interrupted kagaya's dialogue.

▍ ❝   MOUNTAIN MOSSUI ARC.
this arc starts from the end of the mugen train arc. due to the injuries tanjiro received after the fight with enmu, tanjiro resides at the butterfly estate for recovery. right when tanjiro is ready for another mission, shinobu advises him to go visit the new dimsum shop downtown. tanjiro obliged and went there for a quick meal before going to mt. mossui, his next destination. he was assigned to that mission due to the rapid disappearances of other slayers in the span of one night on said mountain. in truth, shinobu told tanjiro to visit the shop in order to meet naohi, who was a regular at that shop now. tanjiro encounters naohi and the two conversed. tanjiro mentions the mission he'll be attending, catching naohi's attention. mt. mossui is naohi's origin, after all. since naohi was free that day, they decided to join tanjiro. to summarize this arc, the two encountered hundreds of demons on that mountain. no worries, a hashira took care of it. a childish one at that...

▍ ❝   HASHIRA TRAINING ARC.
each hashira has a different session, for example, stamina training being uzui, flexibility training being mitsuri, and more. for naohi, their sessions will revolve around defense / durability. basically, learning techniques to defend or break your opponents defense. this requires swift reflexes and reactions, which is why naohi's training comes right after muichiro's. during the training, tanjiro happens to come across a few problems in the defense field. thus, he took plenty of time at naohi's training before moving on to mitsuri's flexibility training. naohi has good senses, and can predict an opponent's next move in a heartbeat. this indeed makes their training more difficult, but leaving that place means you could probably defend yourself from anything at that point.

▍ ❝  THE GHOST BREATHING.
shiroki yamaguchi, a slayer who loved to go up against demons, created the technique known as "ghost breathing." due to his cunning yet kind nature, he invented ghost breathing. he would often play with a demon's mentality, making his opponents see things only they could see and gradually drive them nuts before finishing them off with one blow. he was far too polite to do them any bodily damage. still, mind games and guilt were his favorite ways to discipline a demon. it is noteworthy that individuals who work with ghost breathing leave behind a thick trail of fog when they travel. this serves to alert everyone nearby to the presence of a ghost slayer and to indicate their presence. ghost breathing requires a thin, modified blade that is light and sturdy for quick attacks. techniques document

▍ ❝   ABILITIES.
naohi has the supernatural ability called extrasensory perception. (multiple other slayers have this as well) the ability to sense things that are invisible to the human senses is known as extrasensory perception, or ESP. because they can sense the presence (or aura) of objects around them, ESP users have a keener awareness of their surroundings and can pinpoint their locations without having to look. ESP can also be quite useful in combat, primarily for detecting the deadly intent and bloodlust of an opponent. users that are able to sense bloodlust are better able to predict the location and timing of their opponent's attacks, allowing them more time to plan defensive strategies. extra points since naohi has the sixth sense.

@. tokito muichiro two peas in a pod. a dynamic duo, if i must add. no matter how distinct their personalities may be, but deep down the two of them truly resonate. only a diamond could polish another diamond kind of relationship. naohi does annoy muichiro sometimes, but he's gotten to the point where he's used to their constant yapping.@. shinazugawa genya naohi gets along with genya very well, even though at first, genya was a little rough towards naohi. but slowly, genya softens up to naohi, resulting to the two hanging out more often. naohi loves the fact that genya fights with glocks.@. tengen uzui they're like relatives, even though not. uzui treats naohi like his little sibling, gifting them the ribbon in naohi's hair in order to stand out more than the others. naohi is also attached to uzui's loving wives.@. kocho shinobu shinobu acts like a mother figure towards naohi, and naohi isn't used to this kind of treatment. but naohi knows they like it a lot, smiling like a giddy child whenever shinobu praises them.@. kanroji mitsuri naohi calls mitsuri 'big sis' since mitsuri loves to pamper naohi with meals. mitsuri just knows what naohi craves, as if the two are interlinked. a cute sibling dynamic.
